Princess Ruby
In the largest and most beautiful castle the world had ever seen, there lived a young princess named Princess Ruby. Princess Ruby’s castle was so large, that, one morning, she awoke to discover that she didn’t know where she was! She began knocking on every door that lined the very long hallway. For hours she knocked and knocked and, just when it started to feel as though she might be alone and lost in her castle forever, she tapped on a door, opened it and discovered a tiny grey mouse cooking delicious scones. They smelt wonderful, so she timidly introduced herself to the mouse in the hopes of having one of those scones for her breakfast.
“Hello, Mr Mouse. My name is Princess Ruby.”
“Princess Ruby! I know who you are… We have met many times before! It is OK if you do not remember me. We are often too caught up in our own tiny worlds to remember the names of everyone we meet!”
“Oh, I am sorry,” replied Princess Ruby. “I don’t mean to be rude, it’s just that I am looking for my mother and father. Have you seen them?”
“My darling girl, I haven’t seen anyone in years! I was sent up here to cook for your mother and father long, long ago and yet no one came to eat my food! So, please, you must try a scone. I insist!” The Princess excitedly sat down with Mr Mouse and tried one of his scones. She could not believe how delicious they tasted and how beautiful they smelt. The two of them sat for several minutes laughing and enjoying the warmth of their breakfast.
Meanwhile, Princess Ruby’s mother, Queen Rachel, was outside enjoying some time in the Royal Gardens when suddenly, the most beautiful smell caught her by surprise. She immediately rushed into her castle and began to demand of everyone that they tell her where the smell was coming from. No one could be sure and so she began knocking on every door of the castle, attempting to ask for help but finding that most of the rooms in her castle were empty. It took until evening for Queen Rachel to reach the fifth floor of her castle and, by this time, she was very tired and hungry. When she was just about to give up and return downstairs for dinner, she pushed open a door and found a little grey mouse and a young girl sitting together, eating the most delicious buffet you could possibly imagine.
“Hello, mouse. Hello there young girl,” said Queen Rachel
“Queen Rachel!” squeaked the mouse. “You have finally come to try my cooking! Please sit down and join us!”
“Hello there mother…” replied Princess Ruby and Queen Rachel looked at her confused.
“I…”
“It is OK, Mother. Sometimes we are so caught up in our larger worlds that we cannot remember the names of everyone we meet. We would love for you to sit and join us!”
The three of them sat and laughed and enjoyed all that their company and meals had to offer.
